How is Bay Area Parent & Child Psychology Associates different?
We are a collaboration of separate private practice professionals, and we offer some key advantages to families:
Better access. First, we are dedicated to helping families access developmental and behavioral health more easily. We offer in-home sessions for families with babies and younger children (yes, we make housecalls!). Also, because we are a collaboration of separate private practice professionals, we can provide multiple office locations around the Bay. Many of us offer appointment times in the early morning, evening, and on the weekend. We want to make it as easy as possible for busy parents to integrate developmental and behavioral health support into their daily lives, for the betterment of themselves and their kids.
Research-based. Second, we are committed to providing solid, evidence-based developmental and behavioral health services. This means we keep up-to-date on recent science so we can adjust our treatments based on what has been effective and useful for children and their parents. We believe it is important for families to directly benefit from what researchers are discovering in the fields of pediatric developmental and behavioral health, the science of parenting, and the evaluation of cutting-edge psychotherapeutic treatments for couples and individual adults. At the same time, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach we are careful to customize our treatments to meet your family’s individual needs.
How long is a typical session?
Regular assessment and psychotherapy sessions in the office or in the home are 50 minutes in length. Longer sessions can be arranged where necessary, and 30 minute sessions are possible for younger children. For assessments, several sessions may be necessary in order to complete the process, depending on whether there are school visits and other information-gathering steps.
Do you usually see children and adults on a weekly basis, or…?
Usually, sessions are held at the same time every week, so yes both children and adults come weekly. Sometimes it makes sense to have more or less frequent sessions, depending on the situation. We are very open to working with you collaboratively to find a frequency that fits best for your schedule. Many of our services are designed to be shorter-term programs of 10-15 weeks, although some families come in for longer periods of time depending on needs.
What about payment, and can I use my medical insurance?
Office services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan, but home visits are typically not covered by insurance. For office visits, we will provide an invoice that you can submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Payment can be made by check, cash, or credit card (through Paypal) and is due at the beginning of each session. Regular 50-minute sessions are charged at $150.00, with longer or shorter sessions and travel time for home visits prorated accordingly.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our therapists reserve a special weekly time for your appointment that is held just for you. If you or your child do not show up at that time for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified your therapist at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.
Can I talk with someone first, to find out your services are right for me or my child?
Absolutely! We are happy to offer a no-cost phone consultation of 30 minutes. Please call our main number: 510-575-3020. You can tell us a little about your situation, ask us questions, and if all sounds good, make an appointment for a clinic or home visit.
Do you have early morning, evening, or weekend appointments available?
Yes, certainly. We know that parents are very busy and need to fit appointments into an already-full schedule. We do our best to offer appointments starting as early as 8AM and into the evening as late as 8PM on weekdays, and have some Saturday appointments available too. Weekend appointments are in high demand; please inquire as soon as possible if you would like to secure a regular weekend appointment time or be placed on a waiting list for openings.
